Confirm Your Pregnancy

If you recently learned that you are pregnant, it is highly recommended that you pursue an ultrasound as soon as possible. At First Step, we can provide you with a free ultrasound to determine viability of the pregnancy (per medical policy guidelines.)

Via high-frequency sound waves, an ultrasound produces an image of the inside of the uterus, which provides important information regarding the pregnancy. During your procedure, a lubricant or gel is applied to the client’s skin, helping to reduce static between the skin and the ultrasound wand.

Purpose of An Ultrasound

Upon confirming a positive Pregnancy Test in our office, you may be able to receive a FREE Limited Ultrasound. This ensures a more accurate estimation of due date and proof of pregnancy for obtaining insurance. Additionally, ultrasounds can determine the location of your pregnancy, helping to guard against ectopic pregnancy.

Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancies are rare, but they must be treated as soon as possible following detection, as it can be a life-threatening condition. An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg implants in an area outside of the uterus, which can lead to blood loss and/or severe organ damage as the pregnancy progresses.

Ectopic Pregnancy Symptoms Include:

  • Acute pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Gastrointestinal distress
  • Excessive dizziness or fatigue

If you experience any of these symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately.

Miscarriage

Another condition ultrasounds can assess is your risk for a miscarriage. Miscarriages occur in approximately one in four pregnancies, which makes it all the more important to be aware of potential risks as soon as possible.

Causes of Miscarriages Include:

  • Infection
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Hormones
  • Immune system deficiencies
  • Uterine abnormalities
  • Weakened cervix
  • Drug or alcohol use
  • STIs/STDs

All pregnancies have some risk of miscarriage, regardless of how cautious you are. If you find yourself experiencing any of the above symptoms, please contact a medical professional as soon as possible.

Although a positive pregnancy test result can be scary, it’s important to do your best not to panic. If you recently became pregnant and need an ultrasound, please contact us today to learn about what services we can offer you.
