Know All of Your Options

If you recently found out you are pregnant, an abortion may be something you are considering. If so, it is very important that you make sure you are informed about the various procedures, as well as the risks associated with each one. The staff at First Step can not only help you gather that information but is available to discuss its potential implications for you as well.

What to Know About Abortion

An abortion is a medical procedure performed with the intent to terminate a pregnancy. There are two primary methods of abortion: an in-clinic, surgical procedure, and an out-of-clinic medical procedure, most commonly referred to as the abortion pill. The method chosen varies patient to patient and is selected based on how far along an individual’s pregnancy is. This is typically determined by having an ultrasound performed.

If you are in the first or second trimester of your pregnancy, a surgical abortion procedure may still be an option. However, the abortion pill is only available within the first few weeks following conception. Of course, both methods come with their own particular set of risks, which makes it even more important that you educate yourself on the facts prior to proceeding with the abortion. It is highly recommended that you give yourself proper time and thought to weigh your options before making a final decision.
